The Leaning Tower of Peaches on Providence Rd

last weekend in July

7/29/2018
We did 2 shows this weekend. Temps were above 100 degrees. One show was outdoors Sat. evening (5 til 8). The other one was indoors, Sun. afternoon 3 til 8. Its funny how people born & raised in the south know all about preserves verses folks born farther north know very little about it. At least that has been my experience here in Texas. The Sunday afternoon crowd was from Arkansas, Louisiana & other southern states. Seeing my preserves was like taking them back down to grandma's house in the summer!
I wish more moms and grandmas would make preserves for their children & grandchildren. That's treating them like royalty. Strawberry jam will do just fine! Those kinds of memories are priceless! So glad my grandmother, mother, aunts and mother-in-law did that for me. Thank you Queens!
LESSON LEARNED: #Always be willing to answer those curious questions from a child about what you do.

Got some cukes

7/20/2018
LAround midnight tonight K & I went to the Dallas Wholesale Mkt and got a box of large cucumbers. I see Cinnamon Cucumber Pickles & possibly Bread & Butter Pickles in my future. Lots of farmers out there with lots of produce as you can see in the background. I usually deal with 1 or 2 (local) farmers; local being 50 to 60 miles east of Dallas. There are no farmers or farm land in Dallas proper, only condos and apartments seem to be growing around here.
Never seen an Argentina cucumber before. Thought I'd include a pic for your viewing pleasure.

I can't believe it myself

7/17/2018
Last week my partner in crime was under the weather and could not assist me in the commercial kitchen; so, I did it alone... After standing four non-stop hours, making three different products totaling 61 jars, I was exhausted! As I dragged myself  to the front office still wearing my apron & hair net to pay the rental charge, I placed a box of salt on the counter instead of the credit card. The secretary gave me a real strange look as if to say, "Are we paying in salt now instead of money?" We both cracked up laughing. She agreed it was definitely time for me to go home and get some R&R.

I had good intentions but...

7/9/2018

psI really did intend to go to the Dallas Mkt early Fri morning (6:30am), meet the farmers and buy some produce...but....my body said absolutely NOT! After 5 non-stop days in Florida with the 2 grands, I couldn't even walk straight much less drive anywhere Friday morning. Instead, I met a farmer at the twilight market in Farmers Branch, Texas and brought some produce.
This week I'll be making Squash Pickles, Hot Squash Pickles, Peach Habanero Jam & Hot Chow-Chow.
I told you I was addicted to making preserves & asked you to pray for me. Have you done that yet??? The addiction is still quite prevalent... apparently you have not.

I'm Backkk

7/5/2018
We are back from Florida with the grands. Had lots of fun. But now its time to get back to work. Although I'm exhausted, I "might" go to the Dallas Farmers Night Mkt. in the morning around 6:30am to meet the farmers & probably make a purchase. I need cukes,, squash & peaches.
Oh this produce buying-preserves making addiction I have that won't let me go...y'all need to really pray for me...

    Greetings

I believe there is something very special about making
preserves. Although it seems labor intense to some people it is pure joy for me! It's almost therapeutic. I love to stand and stir a boiling pot containing fresh fruit. The scent is tantalizing! But, better than cooking the product  is seeing the end result of filled jars with delicious goodness. I hope you will enjoy eating the jams and pickles as much as I enjoy making them.
    O taste and see.....
