They have informed us the website said it was temporarily out-of-stock, and they are so kind to remind us that canning season, (according to what we've told them in the past) is happening "now". I guess they want to know "What is the holdup?". Happy to report we are up and running! Both peaches and cucumbers are coming within 2 weeks.
Also happy to report the website has been updated to reflect what we now have in stock. It looks like a lot of washing, peeling, slicing and cooking in the very near future.

Case in point...a couple of days ago I arrived at a local grocery store before it opened with the intent of buying some blueberries that were on sale. The store opened at 10 and I arrived at 9:50. Rather than stand outside wearing a t-shirt., I decided to get my jacket out of the car.  Unfortunately, my grocery list got caught in the wind and I ran after it. forgetting about my purse (with the car keys inside). As fate would have it, the wind caused the door to slam close AND lock.  After waiting almost 2 hours for AAA to come and unlock the door, I was finally able to get back in the car, get my purse and go into the store. Here's the "funny" thing: when I got to the produce section, they had sold out of blueberries the night before!  This brings me back to my first sentence - sometimes dashing from one place to another to get produce isn't always worth it.]]><![CDATA[Climbing Produce Prices]]>Fri, 24 Apr 2026 05:00:00 GMThttps://www.providencepreserves.com/providence-corner/climbing-produce-pricesSometimes when I go to the grocery store, I wonder how much longer we will be able to continue to make preserves. Case in point, earlier this week, I went to that grocery-household-pharmacy store we all have in our towns and cities to pick up an anniversary card. (Hubby & I celebrated our 49th anniversary this week). On my way to the card section, I walk by some very ripe-looking but very small peaches. The price was 97cents! I'm thinking, WOW, that's a good price! However, upon closer inspection I saw that price was per peach!!! Ninety-seven cents for one (small) peach??? That price will have to go a lot lower before I get any peaches from there! I sure hope my local supplier does not decide to follow suite. Here's another case for you. Last week, the only green tomato supplier I know in the area raised his prices to $43.00 per flat box of 25 tomatoes. That's $1.72 per tomato! That price is up by $23 dollars per box from last year this time.
Looks like we might have 3 options:
1. Try to grow some produce like we did when we lived in North Carolina OR
2. Try to find cheaper suppliers OR
3. Put the lid on the canning pot and call it a day!

Only time will tell on this one...

Would you really purchase and eat peaches or watermelons in January? Or, fresh okra in February? Just because you see certain fruits and veggies in a grocery store does NOT mean it is a good time to buy them. I feel certain your produce will not taste the same  (or as good) as it would if you purchased them during their actual/natural growing season.
So...when we say we are "Temporarily Sold Out", that means we are waiting for the farmers and farms we work with to let us know when their produce is ready for harvesting. It is then that we gather, can and or freeze the fruits and veggies to make our delicious jams, chowchow, chutney and pickles. 
We must be honest...on RARE occasions we may purchase  produce from a farmer who has a hot house/greenhouse. This is only done because YOU constantly asked for that particular product and promised to buy the entire batch if we made it.
That said, the Canning Season is drawing nigh. We are already knee-deep in strawberries and we have been told it should be a good year for peaches and the other fruits and veggies we can.
As a well-known Dallas minister use to say-

]]><![CDATA[What can I Say???]]>Mon, 08 Dec 2025 15:03:16 GMThttps://www.providencepreserves.com/providence-corner/what-can-i-saySeveral days ago, I encouraged customers to place their orders before the next vendor event, (as my mother would say, just in case because you never can tell ...). Well, "Just in case" and "You never can tell" happened this past Friday at our last scheduled vendor event at Charlton Methodist Medical Center! We sold out of or sold almost out of every product we made. Our store website reflects a limited number of the jars available; certainly not enough to do a vendor event with.
So, if you missed getting your favorite jar(s) of preserves before the holiday season, we are so sorry...
If its any consolation, we will be back cooking in the kitchen in early March.

Lets be real, jams, pickles and chow-chow taste the way they're suppose to taste when the fruits and veggies are grown, harvested and made into preserves during their growing season. You will appreciate your cup of tea, with a hot buttered biscuit, (we got biscuit mix too) and some of our jam on these cold windy mornings. so, go on and place your order before they're all gone. Am I still making jams, pickles and chow-chow? Yes.
Am I still selling online? Yes.
Am I still vending at local and regional markets? Yes. 
Do I still get excited when we go to the comm kitchen? Yes.
Am I developing new recipes? Absolutely Not!

Providence Preserves LLC has more than enough products for almost anyone's fussy palate. We have traditional & old-fashioned goodies like Strawberry and Peach Jams;  spicy preserves like Peach Habanero Jam & Hot Chow-Chow and finally, the unusual items like Watermelon Rind Pickles & Tomato Pear Chutney. 

The 2025 canning season is slowly coming to a close and the selling season is about to get cranked-up starting mid-September and ending in December. 

Now might just be a good time to place your order...

There has been quite a bit happening over the past few months. Let us bring you up to date:
   * We won 1st place for condiments at the National Zest Fest Competition held in Fort Worth Texas this 
       spring.
   *  We traveled to the east coast 3 times between April and August and ate lots of fresh seafood, saw 
       the ocean, family and friends
   * We found ourselves attending, cheering and silently coaching at EVERY basketball game our grandson 
​       played
   * Our only granddaughter graduated from high school in May
   * We attended various small business events & workshops
   * We connected with some new minority-owned farmers over the summer for local produce
   * We sold some of our products in the GoTexan General Store at the State Fair of Texas in Oct.
   *   Finally, November is proving to be the busiest month as far as vendor events go. Three down 
       and two to go!

]]><![CDATA[New Year, New Beginnings]]>Sat, 27 Jan 2024 22:45:05 GMThttps://www.providencepreserves.com/providence-corner/new-year-new-beginningsAfter a much-needed and restful Christmas and Kwaanza holiday, Providence Preserves is back in the kitchen. We try to use this month as a time to assess the previous year and plan, order and strategize for the new year. Our inventory always starts a little slower at the beginning of the year, but as the year progresses, so does our preserves availability. This is probably the first time we began a new year with absolutely NO products. Generally, there are usually a few jars left over from the previous year. But, by the end of December 2023, there was nothing left on our shelves. We saw that as both a good thing (it showed we had a good year) and a not so good thing (we had to tell customers sorry no products available). However, thanks to some greenhouse farmers, we now have both Mild and Hot Chow-Chow in stock as well as some Strawberry Jam and Tomato Pear Chutney.
Some of our repeat customers are very specific about what they want. We know who you are Carolyn, Claudia and Nicole and, we know what you want - Chow-Chow, Peach Habanero Jam and Hot Squash Pickles! You will be among the first to know! In September & October we were at Duncan Switch and the Methodist Marketplace. November events included the Holiday Bazaar and the 2day event Funky Finds in Fort Worth. The first weekend in  December had us in Waxahachie with the Sparkle and Sleigh Christmas event and Dallas with West Wall Street. Holiday on the Hill is our next scheduled event. I believe after participating in all of these vendor events, Providence Preserves will be due for a break! We may as well take a break until spring because, we are out of stock of just about every item.
