The Leaning Tower of Peaches on Providence Rd
We're trying with this garden! I think we "might" get a few veggies and herbs this summer if a curious squirrel finds a new yard to hangout in. But if he doesn't, well, drastic times may call for drastic measures. I'm only kidding....Hummingbirds, butterflies and honey bees are welcomed. Squirrels - not so much! We're composting, growing plants & seeds in organic soil, collecting rain water and trying very hard to be kind to the environment. Only time will tell.
Check out our garden video on Instagram site - ProvidencePreserves123.
We are really excited about our new partnership with the We Over Me Farm at Paul Quinn College in Dallas Texas. The farm is well known for its delicious all-natural organic produce. Local and regional restaurants, including Celebrations, Café Momentum, Profound Foods and Legends Hospitality at AT&T Stadium all serve up their veggies & herbs. Providence Preserves now makes Pickled Okra, Bread & Butter Pickles and Squash Pickles using only okra, cucumbers, onions and squash from We Over Me Farm. The farm will soon not only sell fresh produce but freshly preserved produce as well. Organic produce may not always be "pretty" but we believe it is always healthier. Support the farm. Support the farmer.
Remember: No Farm - No Food
We're not referring to the old 1990's tv show; we are referring to life in 2020. Its a different world right now for black and brown people. Its a different world for small businesses and especially minority-owned small businesses. It feels over whelming and we're left wondering when will it all end? A vivid analogy would be: if some big businesses and the well-to-do are weary due to a head cold; then the other extreme is many small and minority-owned businesses are bed-ridden with a bad case of double pneumonia! That's how distinct it is
2020 began with the spread of a pandemic that led to sicknesses, deaths, unemployment and many other life-changing situations.
The tragic recent deaths of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor and Rayshard Brooks , have all contributed to the hurt and unrest we feel in our communities, across the nation, and around the world.
None of us know how long we might be in this pandemic. We can only hope as the temperature rises during the warm summer months, COVID-19 outbreaks and racially-motivated violence and unjust treatment will cease.
Everything we planted is starting to come up. Well almost everything. The veggies and herbs are looking pretty good. The flowers on the other hand, the black-eyed susan & freesias, we're not sure about. Only 2 bulbs have peeked through the soil so far.. I'm thinking that aggravating squirrel has paid the bulbs a visit and eaten the seeds! Only time will tell...

Looks like everybody is sheltered-in with lots of energy and no place to go. Well we decided to start a garden. & got the grandkids to help us. We're starting the cukes, green beans, sun flowers, red peppers and squash from seeds in egg cartons. The basil and dill planted earlier are already sprouting. The lavender & mint was planted last year. Actually the first mint plant came from NC 3 yrs ago. So far we've planted some tomato plants, 1 habanero pepper plant and a couple of squash. The plan is to transfer the egg carton seeds to the garden. We're hoping the Texas summer sun wont burn the plants. It will take a lot of water for this small garden to make it. Might as well get ready for a higher water bill!

A lot sure has happened in just a short amount of time!
Maybe on some level life has changed, dramatically for many, as we know it. The Coronavirus has brought a new day not just in our towns and cities but over the entire world. It angers me that it has totally disrupted the lives of so many people when maybe, just maybe, it did not have to on this scale if action had been taken sooner. Unfortunately, it was not. That said, it is my prayer that everyone who reads this is staying as safe and as well as possible and following all safety procedures recommended by the Center for Disease Control. This pandemic will end one day. None of us know what the future holds on the other side of this BUT we do know WHO holds the future.
As many of you know, I had foot surgery in mid-February and I'm still wearing this very fashionable boot on my right foot. Hopefully it will be off in a few weeks and life will resume (as much as it can given the current COVID-19 situation).
I have more great news to report!
First of all, the labels have been updated thanks to Jack at HD Reflections!!!
" I have a new hero, his name is Jack,
My labels needed help & he had my back"
Secondly, we will be starting a partnership in June with WE Over Me Organic Farm in Dallas
Thirdly, this spring we will be introducing a southern biscuit mix in a gift box with our jams! YUM!!!
Finally, again, the toe pins are suppose to come out in 2 weeks and hopefully I will be able to give the boot the boot!
Well its almost time to start prepping the spring/summer garden, ordering new jars, contacting the farmers, making label changes. and finalizing the 2020 show/event schedule.
I am confined for about 3 weeks due to foot surgery so unless I can do the items above from my laptop, they will be put on hold for a while. I've been told the compost looks good and a couple of farmers have already reached out to us. Now if I can just get the first pallet (144) jars ordered & delivered and the labels changed (the label guy knows who he is) we will be making some serious progress. I will make every effort to keep you posted.
We appreciate your continued support!
I believe there is something very special about making
